ANSI / UL-711 Test Standard Harmonization Changes

This information is recopied with permission from Badger Fire Protection, regarding changes to the UL ratings system of fire extinguishers.

Attached is Bulletin 118-0807 from Badger Fire Protection.  They have granted you (FPANT) permission to reproduce and reprint this in the FPANT Newsletter.

As you can see there are changes being made to UL Rating system for portable fire extinguishers.  This includes all US and Canadian Manufacturers.  Badger just has the most clear explanation and have given FPANT their permission to reproduce.  I am not selecting them over any other Manufacturer; on this subject all manufacturers are all equal.

I believe it would serve FPANT Members well to know that this is coming (part of it is already here--post August 14, 2007 and part has been delay --extended to February 2009).

It is my sole intent to pass this info and their permission along to you; and for you to do as you believe is best for FPANT.

Please note I am not certain you can manipulate from this format so I have asked them for something that can be in a "cut and paste" format.

Regards,

Pete Frayer

PS  The Badger representative says there should be no inability for furnish UL-300 Fire Systems (adequate inventory) now or after January 2008.  They have planned for it and this will only impact one State, they supply equipment like this world wide, so they are constantly adjusting to demand peaks and valleys.  And theoretically red tagging will start on January first but will continue for approximately six months (i.e. one semi-annual cycle), so there will be plenty of time "to make more" if that becomes an issue.  Also please be reminded that there are five separate manufacturers that make this type of system.  Although there may be some advantages in staying with the same manufacturer when remodeling this will not always be the case on every project.  FYI
